Smartphone app makes short work of spray calcs

Nufarm says the new smartphone app for WeedMaster TS540 comes at a perfect time as farmers and contractors will have had a chance to familiarise themselves with the new tool before getting stuck into preparing for pasture renewal and other autumn jobs.

Available for free from both the iTunes store and Google Play, the app is designed to simplify the process of identifying how much WeedMaster TS540 is required for both individual weed species, and the job as a whole.

Nufarm marketing manager Nicola Smith says the two key seasonal markets for WeedMaster TS540 – spring and autumn – typically coincide with very busy periods for both farmers and contractors and anything that helps them save time and get through their work more efficiently has got to be good.

“The app puts the right rates into their hands with a few taps of the phone so they can find out exactly what they need straight away,” she says.

Just as importantly, they get the information they need to achieve the best possible result from what can be a critical step in preparing for autumn sowing.

A good kill of existing grass and grass weeds is vital for successful autumn pasture renewal, especially where low value grass species such as browntop have contributed to the paddock in question being selected for renewal in the first place.

“Even if the paddock was sprayed in spring, prior to crop being established, grass weeds can become re-established over summer and will quickly out-compete newly-emerged pasture seedlings after autumn sowing.

“By then it’s too late to remedy the problem, and instead of productive, profitable new pasture farmers can find themselves facing the loss of quality and persistence faster than expected.”
