The Rexade Bash for Cash was a fun cricket themed competition that ran for the duration of the South Island Field Days, giving anyone who wanted the opportunity to face an ‘over’ and hit 6 balls through the target of the interactive Dow AgroScience display.
The fund raiser totalled $5300 over the three days, says Dow Agrosciences marketing manager Nick Koch.
“The aim of the Rexade Bash for Cash was to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Across New Zealand people are living in poor housing conditions and as a result their health is poor, they struggle to pay bills, buy food or afford medical care.
“For many even the basics of shelter are out of reach. By contributing to Habitat for Humanity we aim to give those people a hand up to fill their basic needs for housing. Offering them not just a roof over their heads, but the opportunity to work towards owning their own house. A simple, decent home is the foundation for a better life.”
As it turned out there were quite a few good cricketers at the SIAFD, Koch says. “It was a great way for people to engage with our brand, doing something that was tactile and fun that also had significance for the Canterbury community.”
Hundreds of visitors to the field days participated in the Rexade Bash for Cash, and they all learned a bit more about Habitat for Humanity and its role both in Canterbury and New Zealand as a whole.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, Koch says, with visitors appreciating not just the creativity of the promotion but the cause behind it.
Dow AgroSciences has supported Habitat for Humanity globally for some time, and became involved with the charity in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake.
Since then it has donated some NZ$400,000 and the SIAFD promotion was an ideal opportunity to continue with this effort.
“It’s a real pleasure to be involved with Habitat for Humanity. It gives us a way of giving back to the NZ community.”
Rexade is Dow AgroSciences’ new post emergence herbicide for one pass grass and broadleaf weed control in wheat and triticale. Featuring two active ingredients, Nick Koch says it promises to make a big difference to NZ crop agronomy, helping to manage herbicide resistance and reduce farm operating overheads.
“Rexade is the perfect all-rounder, providing efficient grassweed and broadleaf control up to growth stage 31. It controls wild oats, brome grass, ryegrass, and many significant broadleaf weeds including fumitory, field pansy, speedwell, clovers, shepherds purse and many others.
“It is also highly compatible with many complimentary crop protection products, so it has an excellent fit for the increasing number of growers seeking one-pass weed, pest and disease control.”
