Korvetto, from Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, has just been released here this month.
 

And the NZ team behind it is excited about the opportunity it presents for both retailers and end users.
 

Corteva Agriscience’s NZ marketing manager Glen Surgenor says the domestic market isn’t always at the front of the global

queue when it comes to accessing new agchem formulations, for reasons that are well understood, including our relatively small size and isolation.
 

But brassica crops are so important in our farming systems that the company made a special effort to get Korvetto cleared for

sale as quickly as possible.

“We knew it would be hugely useful to farmers, and we wanted to get it out there in time for this season’s crops, if we could.”
 

The efficiency of the agchem development and regulatory process in NZ helped achieve this, he says, with registration finalised in early August.
 

Thus, as farmers once again prepare to sow thousands of hectares of forage brassicas in the weeks ahead, they will now

be able to factor in cutting edge broadleaf weed control.
 

Korvetto combines Corteva Agriscience’s new active Arylex with the trusted chemistry of clopyralid, Surgenor says.
 

This is a unique formula for the forage brassica herbicide market and a major selling point is relatively short plant-backs for more flexible crop rotations.
 

“It’s the most flexible post emergent herbicide for brassicas, with a three month plantback for clover, and six month plantback for fodder beet,” Surgenor says.
 

“This gives farmers a lot more freedom when planning ahead for subsequent crops. Some other herbicide options have plantbacks of up to 12-24 months.”
 

As well as controlling key forage brassica weeds like fathen, nightshades and Californian thistles, at one litre per ha, Korvetto

provides best-in-class control of shepherds purse and fumitory, he adds.
 

Crop safety is excellent for leafy and bulb turnips, kale, forage rape and swedes.
 

“Another important benefit is that it is registered for aerial application which means customers are not solely reliant on ground-spray. That’s good to know when conditions are such that site access is an issue.”
 

The formulation features an inbuilt methylated seed oil (MSO) adjuvant, so there’s no need for farmers to add a surfactant to the mix, and it’s a low odour NeoEC formulation ensuring it’s nice to handle and use, Surgenor adds.
 

Grazing withhold is 14 days; applications are rainfast in one hour; Korvetto is compatible with commonly used grassweed herbicides and insecticides; and it is safe to apply following trifluralin pre-emergence herbicide.
